Clinical Pilates
Clinical pilates combines current physiotherapy research and the original Pilates exercise method to provide a safe and extremely effective exercise approach used in the treatment of spinal and joint problems. It is a most powerful tool used in the recovery of core stability and strength in people with recurring or chronic pain.
The exercises are guided by the physiotherapists' comprehensive understanding of the mechanism and pathology of spinal injury and pain. This pathology can alter the recruitment patterns of vital muscles.
Personal trainers and Pilates teachers (that are not physiotherapists) are trained in normal biomechanics but NOT the pathology of injuries or the affects of chronic pain or abnormal mechanics or postures.
Clinical Pilates is a highly individualized exercise program which is injury-specific, efficient and safe in the management of acute and chronic spinal pain.
Some of the many conditions it has shown great benefit for include:
- Lumbar disc pathology
- Lumbar instability
- Non-specific low back pain
- Chronic pain
- Neck pain
- Shoulder pain
- Headaches
- Pre and post-pregnancy pain
- Sports injuries
